Hi Friends,
I’m so excited to share something very special with you today. I recently had the honor of joining Dr. Isabella Wentz — the “Thyroid Pharmacist” — for a powerful podcast conversation. Many of you know her incredible work as a leading advocate for healing Hashimoto’s and as the author of "Hashimoto’s Protocol."
During this interview, we did a deep dive into SIBO — from root causes to real solutions — and I opened up about my own personal journey with SIBO, something I rarely share publicly. The obstacles, confusion, and setbacks I faced years ago ultimately shaped the roadmap I now use to help thousands of patients reclaim their gut health.
If you’ve ever wondered why thyroid issues and gut issues are so deeply linked, this interview will connect the dots. We discussed how thyroid hormones influence stomach acid, motility, digestion, and nutrient absorption — and why so many people with Hashimoto’s silently struggle with SIBO without realizing it.
We also covered the surprising ways SIBO can lead to food sensitivities, histamine intolerance, leaky gut, reflux, and chronic bloating. Plus, we talked about the limitations of diets like low-FODMAP and carnivore, when microbiome testing is helpful, how to prevent SIBO relapses, and why daily bowel movements do not always reflect healthy motility.
➡️ You can watch the full interview here.
Here are just a few highlights from our conversation:
• The root causes of SIBO in thyroid and Hashimoto’s patients
• How gut healing can lower TPO antibodies (including a case that dropped from >900 to the 500s)
• Acid vs. non-acid reflux and why low stomach acid is often the real issue
• Natural strategies for reflux, bloating, and motility
• Meal spacing, prokinetics, and why relapse prevention is essential

This Ratatouille is the ultimate comforting dish, perfect for cooler weather when you’re craving something warm, tasty, and healthy. Packed with delicious Italian flavors, it’s not just a feast for your taste buds but also a powerhouse of nutrition. The rich tomato sauce is loaded with lycopene, a potent polyphenol known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, while the layers of zucchini, eggplant, and bell peppers provide a generous dose of fiber, helping to support digestion and gut health.
3-4 medium zucchini (sliced into thin rounds)
1 medium eggplant (sliced into thin rounds)
1 large onion (thinly sliced)
2 red bell peppers (sliced into strips)
4 garlic cloves (minced)
5 Roma tomatoes (for the sauce)
5-6 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
2+ tablespoons Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Make the Tomato Sauce: Blend the Roma tomatoes with 3 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth. Spread a thin layer of this sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Assemble the Vegetables: Alternate slices of zucchini, eggplant, and onion in the dish, arranging them vertically in a spiral or straight rows for a visually appealing presentation. Add red bell pepper strips and sprinkle minced garlic evenly throughout the layers.
Sprinkle each layer with salt, pepper, and extra Italian seasoning.
Pour the remaining tomato sauce evenly over the top of the vegetables.
Drizzle 2 tablespoons olive oil over the assembled vegetables.
Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 20 minutes to allow the vegetables to steam and soften.
Pro tip: Make sure the dish is large enough so that the aluminum foil does not touch the vegetables since it's recommended that aluminum foil not come in contact with tomato sauce, which is acidic.
Remove the foil, drizzle the remaining 1–2 tablespoons olive oil over the top, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and lightly caramelized.
Garnish with fresh basil (if desired) and serve warm!
If you know someone navigating SIBO, IBS, or thyroid issues, please share this interview with them.
I hope it brings comfort, clarity, and hope — especially as we move into the holidays.
Wishing you and your family a healthy, peaceful holiday season. 🧡
Have a beautiful week,

Rajsree Nambudripad, MD
