FAQ

What is Betaine with Pepsin?
Betaine with Pepsin contains betaine hydrochloride (also known as stomach acid) and pepsin, a digestive enzyme essential for proper protein breakdown. Taken with meals, this formula supports healthy digestive function, aids in the breakdown of protein-containing foods, and supports nutrient absorption.
What are the benefits of Betaine with Pepsin?
Betaine with Pepsin can help you to better digest food, especially proteins. It can help with bloating that is caused by low stomach acid, a big root cause of Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Small Intestine Fungal Overgrowth (SIFO), Candida (yeast) overgrowth. People with hypothyroidism are more likely to suffer from low stomach acid.
What are clues you need Betaine and Pepsin?
If you are taking Digestive Enzyme Pro, but still feel bloated, or notice phlegm in your throat after meals, this is a clue you have low stomach acid. Frequent belching (burping) after meals is another clue you may have low stomach acid. Also, if you feel like food just sits in your stomach like a brick and is slow to digest, this is a clue you have low stomach acid. If you see undigested food fragments in your stool, or floating food debris, this is a clue you may have low stomach acid.
What is the recommended dose?
Start with 1 capsule after food. If you have no burning, this means you need it and you’re not making enough stomach acid on your own. If needed, you can increase the dose to 2 capsules, provided you have no burning. If you take it after a meal and notice burning, this means you don’t need it and are already making enough stomach acid on your own. The amount of Betaine with Pepsin that should be taken may vary for each person, to achieve the desired support.
Should it be taken with Digestive Enzyme Pro?
Yes, most people who benefit from Betaine and Pepsin, take it along with Digestive Enzyme Pro, which is a more broad-spectrum enzyme to also target the breakdown of fats and carbohydrates as well. You can take 1-2 capsule each of Betaine and Pepsin and Digestive Enzyme Pro after meals.
What do I do if I feel burning after taking Betaine and Pepsin?
This means you are likely making enough stomach acid and don’t need Betaine and Pepsin, or the amount of Betaine and Pepsin you took was too high. You can neutralize the acid by eating a little more food and drinking water. If needed, you can also mix 1/4 tsp baking soda with a glass of water and drink.
When it the best time to take Betaine and Pepsin relative to my meals?
I recommend taking it AFTER meals, to reduce the risk of any burning. It is especially helpful in meals high in protein.
Is Betaine and Pepsin important in SIBO treatment?
Yes, absolutely! Low stomach acid is a big root cause of SIBO. This is why correcting your digestion with Betaine and Pepsin can really help reduce your symptoms and increase the success rate of your SIBO treatment.
