š§ 5 Mind-Blowing Facts About Your Brain
(That All Start in Your Gut)
Dear Friends,
Have you ever wondered why you feel foggy, anxious, or downāeven when your labs look ānormalā?
The answer may lieĀ notĀ in your brain, but in your gut.
Here areĀ 5 mind-blowing factsĀ about your brain that all stem back to your gut. Watch myĀ short videoĀ above for a quick summary!
Ā
1. 90% of your serotonin is made in your gutānot your brain.
That āfeel-goodā neurotransmitter responsible for mood, sleep, and focus? Itās mostly produced by your gut microbes! The same goes for melatonin, the sleep hormone.Ā
Ā
2. Dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut bacteria) can trigger brain symptoms.
When harmful bacteria outnumber beneficial ones, it can lead to brain fog, anxiety, and even depression. This is why probiotics have beenĀ scientifically provenĀ to improve mood and mental health outcomes.
Ā
3. Leaky gut allows bacterial toxins (like LPS) to cross the blood-brain barrier.Ā Increased translocation of gram-negative bacteria plays a role in the inflammatory pathophysiology of depression.Ā These toxins triggerĀ neuroinflammation, a root cause of fatigue, poor memory, and cognitive decline.
Ā
4. Your gut microbes influence how your brain ages.
AnĀ unhealthy gut has been linked toĀ increased risk of Alzheimerās diseaseĀ and other neurodegenerative conditions.
Ā
5. The gut and brain are in constant communication through the vagus nerve.
This meansĀ every gut symptom could be a brain signalāand vice versa.
